IP Terminal

The IP terminal is a programmable data collection and clocking terminal that connects directly to any TCP/IP network. Data is collected through time and date stamped transactions, in a similar way to other Feedback Data terminals.

Display

The terminal has a 160 x 80 dots monochrome graphics display that can display up to 10 lines of 26 characters of text. Different character sizes, fonts, icons and images can be displayed simultaneously. The display is backlit, and the level of brightness can be programmed to suit lighting conditions or to conserve power.

Keypad

The terminal has sixteen tactile, illuminated keys. The function of every key is programmable and can be used for numeric entry, text entry and for selecting functions. Operators are guided through the steps of data entry with a combination of illuminated keys and programmable legends or icons shown on the display.

Four keys are placed immediately below the display, to allow direct association between the legend and the keys function. These four keys can also be used as 'arrow' keys to navigate around a menu or table. The keys have a hardwearing surface and are designed for long life but are also quickly and easily replaceable. The level of illumination can be programmed to suit lighting conditions or to conserve power.

Media Readers

Readers suitable for most of the popular proximity, slot and smart card media may be fitted for media entry. An LED can be lit under program control, to indicate when the terminal is waiting for media input. The following types of media are currently supported: -

  • Bar code (Code 3 of 9)
  • Magnetic stripe (Track 2)
  • HID proximity (Wiegand and Clock/Data formats)
  • Mifare smart card (32 bit ID number)
  • Indala proximity
  • Dallas iButton (48 bit ID number)

Sound

The terminal is fitted with a wide range loudspeaker that can play a variety of sounds to denote different operator events. Individual notes, or sequences of notes, may be specified by the host and stored in the terminal's memory. The volume, duration and repetition rate of each note may be specified individually.

Optional Hardware Features

The IP Terminal offers the following optional features:

UPS

An optional UPS module and NiMh battery pack can be fitted. A standard AA battery pack can power the terminal for one to two hours. An optional C battery pack will power the terminal for up to four hours.

Communications Interfaces

The physical layer of the interface is built on an interchangeable module to support alternative connection methods, including: -

  • 33.6k baud internationally approved modem
  • GSM modem

Standard radio interfaces, such as Symbol and Proxim, can be connected externally using one of the other interfaces.

Auxiliary I/O

Auxiliary I/O is provided by fitting an optional I/O module to the wall plate. A module providing the I/O needed for simple access control applications contains: -

  • 2 external reader interfaces
  • 1 relay
  • 2 opto-isolated inputs

Other modules will be developed as required.

Fingerprint Scanner

The terminal may be fitted with a scanner for fingerprint verification. Numeric templates are generated from random points on the scanned pattern, and held in the terminal's memory. The keypad or media input is used to select the correct template for each user. Templates are generated when users enrol at a terminal, and can then be shared with other terminals around the site. The terminal can store templates for up to 30,000 users on a replaceable Multimedia memory card.

The terminal cannot collect or store a visible image of a fingerprint.

Speech

The terminal can be fitted with a simulated speech module that 'speaks' text messages. Different words or sequences of words may be specified by the host and stored in the terminal's memory. The volume and pitch of each word may be specified individually.

Case

The Terminal is styled in grey high impact ABS, providing a tough and durable outer shell. A clever blend of style and practical design ensures it is at home in the office and on the factory floor.

A pressed steel back plate ensures strength and rigidity. All cables enter through the rear of the back plate to help protect against damage and tampering. Most cables connect directly to the back plate for quick and trouble-free installation.

Conduit Box

The conduit box allows easy installation for surface run cables, conduit or trunking. Four 20mm knockout holes allow standard conduit fittings to attach above or below the terminal. Optional cable assemblies may be fitted to the conduit box to accept 9 way D and 5 way DIN connections from external readers.

An optional UPS can power the terminal for up to four hours from a re-chargeable NiMh battery pack.
